Located about 40 km from Chamba town, the Chhatrari Temple, also known as the Shakti Devi Temple, is one of the most ancient and revered temples in Himachal Pradesh. Built in the 7th century by King Meru Varman, this temple is dedicated to Goddess Shakti (Chhatrari Devi) and is a remarkable example of early Himalayan wooden architecture.

Chhatrari Temple

The main idol of Goddess Shakti, crafted from ashtadhatu (an alloy of eight metals), is believed to have been sculpted by the legendary artist Gugga, who also created the famous Manimahesh idol. Surrounded by scenic hills and traditional wooden houses, Chhatrari offers both divine peace and a glimpse into the rich heritage of Chamba Valley.

Every year, during the Manimahesh Yatra, pilgrims visit this temple to seek blessings before continuing their journey to Manimahesh Lake.

Highlights: Ancient wooden architecture, ashtadhatu idol, spiritual atmosphere, cultural heritage, scenic mountain views.
Best Time to Visit: March to October
